Why do some people start to blog and why do others read them? This is actually a ten points question because its answer covers the very working principle behind the entire blogging community. Number one, we are not far off when saying that bloggers are very much like journalists or columnists, and that the material we find on blogs is very often much more interesting than that in the Media thanks to the personal touch writers include in their content. Therefore we cannot deny the interactive dimension of blogs, which is probably the best advantage in itself: comment boxes for instant responses, links to documented information, videos and pictures turn the blog into a magic puzzle.

Blogging is now the trend: no comment to that! Not only is it popular with individuals of all ages but it also makes one feel like blending in. You get an idea of what individuals appreciate in your writing, you get to comment and actually live some events of public interest, and you have the chance to voice your opinion. Everything you post on the blog, every piece of unique material is achieved and easily accessible when you need it; many would-be writers actually take blogging very seriously because they are offered the opportunity of getting things into print without the intermediary of another publication.

Quite a few blogs offer the advantage of a debate area where you will find all sorts of opinions: don’t get angry if the comment is not really the one you have hoped for, points of view are opinions and they should not hurt feelings. It’s within your power to take things like that. Then, we should also mention the popularity and Promotion advantages that are relevant to a blog; just like niches, small business blogs create the proper environment for the easy reach of Targeted audiences.

Many business owners have discovered that blogs are the best way to regularly keep in touch with customers and even employees, because these blogs function as online journals that are very frequently updated. The advantage that blogs clearly have above other sites is that they express something peculiar in the most active or dynamic of ways whereas the other classical web sites are definitely static. Without any shade of a doubt the voice of the writer is the element that makes a blog unique and interesting at the same time.

4 Key Things To Start Your Online Forum Community

Copyright 2006 - Cosmin Ghiurau
Founder and admin of ROYOUTH.com - Connecting Ethnic Romanian Christian Youth

http://www.royouth.com

I know there are a lot of you who are have heard about the awesome power of having an online forum community. You have probably already been active in numerous forums and have begun to create a network of friends on these forums.

Next thing that goes through your mind is, "Why don't I start a Forum of my own!" So you go ahead and begin to research on how to do it and realize that starting an online forum community is a lot harder than you thought!

Well, this article is about how to go about starting your own online forum in the easiest way possible. So lets here we go:

1. Establish Your Niche Topic for the Forum.

I have seen a lot of forums that I go to and they cover anything and everything in their forum. Now it is always good to have a "Chit Chat" or "Lounge" area of your forum to give members an opportunity to talk about anything. However, the success of your forum is to have a specific niche topic that will not only get your forum indexed by the search engines, but something that will attract your core audience.

This is one of the biggest obstacles to overcome even though it may seem the easiest thing to understand. Many novice forum webmasters see that they can add as many categories and sub-forums as they can in their overall website forum, and the main topic gets lost. In turn, when a visitor does happen to come the website, they are turned off by a 'General' forum.

2. Select the best Web Forum Script

There are so many forum scripts out there in which this is another huge major obstacle a novice webmaster comes across.

Your first tendancy will be to use the forum script that the forum you are most active on uses right? Ha! I caught you!

Now there is nothing wrong with this, but sometimes these forums scripts are so modified and 'hacked' as is sometimes referred to modified forum scripts that it will be hard for you to create one just like your favorite forum.

I would suggest to start off with a free forum script that has the feature to 'migrate' forum information to another forum script. For example. Start off with the free forum script phpBB. This is by far the most powerful free script available. Even most web hosts have it part of their package that you can install on a single click (we'll talk more about web hosts later).

Once you have phpBB installed, this is by far the best forum script in which other 'paid for' forum scripts have what is called 'migration tools' for. These migration tools is a script or tool that can transfer all of your forum information.

So for example, you website is successful and you wish to 'change your forum foundation script' to a 'paid script' such as vBulletin. vBulletin has a migration tool for phpBB, the process would be seamless and you wouldn't lose any forum information.

The worst thing for a forum community is to have a lot of activity on the forum and then the webmaster decided to change the forum platform because the free one they started out with just doesn't have all the features of other forum communities. So the webmaster changes the forum script and loses the forum information. I guarantee this will KILL your community.

So starting off with a wise plan in the beginning to grow is a huge step.

3. Selecting Your Web Host

The next thing after selecting what forum platform you wish to use, is the painfully hard decision of finding the right web host.

A web host is basically a company that 'rents' you space on their server for typically a monthly payment.

Now depending on your budget to start off with, I would say do a search on Google for the keyword: "Cheap Web Host". You will see millions of results. Go through the websites of the top 10 results on your Google search and decide which one you need.

I URGE you DO NOT start a forum off in a 'free web space' or 'free forum' community. You are tied to that that web host and more than likely you will have tons of advertisements on your site that will annoy your members and more than that, it really screams that that your website is not a 'permanent' home for your members. Perception plays in key role in the success of your forum. If you forum looks and feels hard to use. No one will use it. Would you?

Please stay away from free forum web hosts!

Either way, you'll be spending a few bucks a month on web hosting, but as you build your community you can slowly introduce your own Google Adsense or Banner Ad campaigns that will make you enough money to cover your web hosting costs and in many cases, enough to pay for your gas that month and more even more!

Select a web host within your budget, and make sure that the host you select allows you to have forums. Since forums consume a lot of what is called 'bandwidth' and web space, some budget web hosts have a maximum on how much bandwidth and web space to use.

From my experience, if you start off with at least 1GB of space and 5 GB of bandwidth. That is MORE than you will need until your forum community is large enough to pay for itself on a larger web host, or even lease your own what is called 'dedicated server'. Do a web search on Google for what a dedicated server is to find out more.

A solid and reliable web host is one that answers customer support in a timely manner. Make sure that before you decide on a web host to contact that web host via their toll free phone number or support email. If they don't answer quickly back to a potential customer how would they respond once they know you are a customer?

Do you homeword and make sure you are comfortable with the web host you choose because the last thing you need is to have to move web hosts and lose potential forum community information.

4. Driving Traffic to your Forum

Once you have everything up, you selected your niche, you found your forum community script, you installed it on a reliable host, you expect a flood of visitors to join as a member!

This is where the make it or break it part of the forum comes into play. If you have no visitors or members participating, your forum won't grow.

My advice is to start off the circle where you began. Within your network of online friends. These days with so many forums and social networking websites, there are so many to choose from why should anyone join YOUR forum?

Well, you can use this network of websites to your advantage. Start off with the forums you are active in. If they allow you to advertise your forum or website, do it. Otherwise add a link to is in your signature. If you have thousands of posts your link on that forum will appear in thousands of places instantly!

Then go to other forums relevant to your topic and try to be active there with a link in your signature back to your website.

Announce your website launch to your friends in your Messenger systems.

Better yet! Try to do a marketing trick of giving away something to a random member once a week.

Above all, make sure YOU are active. Even if noone posts anything that day. Go in and post. Try to provoke a conversation with your posts. Once members join and are active give them the honor of being initial moderators of your forum. This will encourage them and make them feel like they are part of your forum community and will keep their loyalty to your forum. In turn what will they do? Tell THEIR friends about it. Now you are beginning to see what is called a 'viral' effect to driving traffic to your website.

Most of all, do not give up. Keep talking about your forum and inviting people to join. The more passionate and excited you are about your forum, the more others will see that in you and your friends and will be willing to spend time on your forum to build it up.

Once you go through these initial steps to starting your online forum community you are on the right track to have a successful community. Once this happens, you can easily think about even being able to earn money from your website that will cover your costs and place some 'spare change' in your pocket. This is all of course if you have the right niche, the right forum script, the right webhost, and the right methods to drive traffic to your forum! To your success!

A Business Roundtable - Will It Provide Advice Small Business Owners Are Looking For?

Have you heard that the more you give the more you receive? Who better to provide answers to small business owners' questions than other business owners who have experienced similar challenges? Owning a business doesn't have to be lonely. Consider starting or joining a business roundtable.

A well run business roundtable is a great forum for sharing ideas and challenges. What exactly is a business roundtable? It's a gathering of small business owners where issues pertinent to each person in the group are discussed, ideas are generated and problems may even be solved.

Starting a business roundtable in your area is not at all difficult and as the facilitator, you can either choose the topic to be discussed each time you meet or ask a few people to be ready to present an issue that they are currently facing for your topic. Having some of your attendees present an issue will ensure that your discussions are exactly what your attendee's are experiencing TODAY! But, don't make the meeting all about just one attendee. You should be able to address the current concerns of three or four people at each meeting and as a group, come up with solutions that are valuable to everyone present.

What are some popular topics that get the conversations going? It seems that any thing to do with marketing is a very popular topic. Doesn't this make sense? A person ready to be in business for themself should know their product or service, know how to set up their business, where to purchase the products that they need and even how to treat their customers. It is a fairly logical task also, to calculate the cost of each of these and therefore your cost of doing business.

The one area that many people overlook when setting up a business is determining who their customer will be and how to go about getting the word about their new business out to the customers looking for their help. And so, marketing is where new business owners get stuck. This is often the place where they fold, not having any idea how or enough money to get through the dilemna.

If you find this to be true, you could encourage people that have been successful in this area to attend your meetings and provide your other attendees with the answers that they are so looking for.

Whether this is or is not the most popular topic in your area, pay attention to what that topic might be and invite people that you see that are successful in that area in order to provide maximum help and input.

Many small business owners work crazy hours and often don't know where to turn for help and advice when they have an issue. Wouldn't it be nice if a local business roundtable was available to them? You'll find that lots of people will come even if they don't have a particular issue because of how much they benefit just from listening to everyone else.

Times are tough. You can't afford to pay for advice each time you have a question or need a little input. Why not put together your own business roundtable? Who better to offer advice than someone experiencing similar issues?

Are you looking for a venue to share your experiences and learn from others? Start by making sure that you choose a location that is convenient to you.

Would you like to learn exactly how we have successfully set up a business roundtable and see examples of how we have helped our fellow small business owners? Living up to its name, the Alabama Jumpers, AKA Georgia Jumpers, Wigglers, will wiggle so hard and fast they become a recoiled spring, hence jumping right out of your hand. Wiggling as hard as these worms do, just imagine what they look like to the fish.

When composting outside, your Alabama Jumpers will spread out throughout your yard or garden area over time as they reproduce in numbers, coming to the surface to feed and leaving the worm castings behind. As they continue to work the soil they aerate it and will not harm your plants nor the roots of your plants.

There are many ways to earn additional money in the vending machine industry. One example is that you can establish a set of vending machines at certain locations, which you have already selected. You may feel let down by your current employment, and such, many Americans are simply not happy with their employment, so one avenue of making your life better could be starting your own business, and letting go of that troublesome boss or work schedule, and eliminating some stressors in your life.

You may not have to dig into all of your savings, look for other investment partners, or apply for a large loan.

Certainly, it is an affordable small business option, which is capable of letting you make money, while you are comfortable away.

In addition, many people enjoy the idea of becoming their own boss. There are many entrepreneurs out there looking for an opportunity like this, because of its ability to let you decide on what you want for your business. Furthermore, it is a remarkable idea for a small business prospect.

Due to the low startup cost associated with a vending machine business, there is also a chance to make a staggering first-year return on investment. With whatever vending machines you specifically choose, and what locations you decide upon, the opportunity is there to gain astonishing profit. It is one of the only businesses that chiefly will work for you, on your time schedule, and requires little or no employees, because the employees are your machines!

One of the greatest benefits of a vending machine business is the ability for you to set your own hours. Try to think back to a time when you had a job that let you set your own hours, and work on the time schedule you desired. It is hard for many of us to do this, because it is seldom seen in large corporations.

Knowing what you want from a vending machine business is a primary concern. It is a business endeavor with a highly flexible work schedule, which lets you decide on what you want for your business.

Certainly, it is important to think about the kind of vending machines that you can select for your vending machine business. Many choices of vending machines exist, given your criteria and business strategy. Consider the locations that you will be serving, on your vending machine routes. Vending machine route locators can work with you, to establish a route, or generally help in the process of selecting your locations. A vending machine route locator will require a fee, but ultimately it is up to decide on what you want to do. That is one great benefit of the vending machine business, which is the ability for you to decide on what you want for your future.

Create A Photography Business Checklist To Help Start Your Dream Business

Copyright 2006 Vision Business Concepts Inc

If you've been thinking of starting your own business for some time now, the easiest way to get started is to begin with a photography business checklist. This list will provide you with the details of what it takes to get started, and give you a something that makes the tasks seem more doable.

So, if you're ready to move forward in photography, where do you start? What are the most important steps to consider when starting a photography business?

1. Start by defining the type of photography you choose to offer your clients. Everyone has a different reason for becoming involved in photography. Some love working with babies and children. Some prefer working on location with families and pets. Some love commercial work, and making products come alive. Some find passion in creating wedding photography.

While many photographers choose multiple specialties, keep in mind that any one of these can make a lucrative career. The more passion you have in your chosen line of photography, the easier it is to promote your work, and get known within your specialty.

2. Establish your business identity. Once you decide on your specialty, use that specialty to identify your name and your brand. While some photography studios are named after the business owner, others use a more generic name.

A name is a personal choice. But above all, make sure your name speaks to your desired clientele.

3. Decide what resources you need for your business. Do you need a commercial location for a studio? Will you work out of your home? What type of camera equipment will you need? While a start-up business shouldn't invest in extravagant equipment, you should purchase enough equipment to sufficiently do your job, and to have backup equipment available at all sessions.

4. Decide what vendors you will be using for your business. A photography studio needs a variety of services, including a professional photography lab, album companies, framing companies, office supplies, and production supplies.

An easy way to find many of these vendors is to attend a photography expo. There are many local, regional, national and international expos available to the professional photographer, including Professional Photographers of America, and Wedding & Portrait Photographers International. And sign up for newsletters at places like VirtualPhotographyStudio.com to stay on top of some of the newest and most exciting trends.

5. Join professional organizations to network with like-minded individuals. There are a variety of professional photographer organizations. It's also important to join organizations in your community, such as entrepreneur groups, networking groups, and chamber of commerce's. All can provide you with invaluable resources.

6. Market your business to prospective clients. Every business needs customers to survive. Top priority for any new business is to bring in new clients not only to establish yourself as a business, but also to begin making a profit for your business.

7. Add your own goals to your photography business checklist. Provide specific goals that will help you realize your dream. Add things like 'quit full time job in October' to help motivate you to take action on your ideas.

Start A Home Based Candle Making Business

Who doesn't love candles? Fragrant candles have become all the rage in recent years, and if you have the ability to make these beauties, then chances are good that you can start a profitable business doing what you love. Candle making can be a great opportunity for those who are looking for a "side" business as a way to supplement their existing income, and many people work full time in a business that was started as a part time endeavor. If you love making them, then this may be the perfect niche business for you.

What You Will Need

If you have been making candles for awhile, you probably have much of what you need to get started already in your home. But you will want to determine what types you want to sell, or perhaps you want to sell more than one type of candle. Once you have decided on what you will offer, you will need to buy the materials that you will use to create the products, including the waxes, scents, and equipment, as well as containers, jars, packaging material and stickers that will display your company's name and logo, among other things.

Marketing and Selling

Once your supplies are in place, you can then begin marketing your candle products and business. Many people find that attending festivals, fairs, and bazaars is a good way to market and sell their creations. You might also attempt to partner with local gift shops and other retailers to place a display of your candles in their locations, giving them a percentage of the sales for their efforts. You can also establish an online presence to sell your candles around the globe. A functional website will allow you to list your inventory, including pictures and descriptions of your products, and then allow customers to check out and pay for their purchases before you ship them out.

A quality website will include:

A homepage that details your production procedures, philosophy and states the essence of your candle business.

An about us page that details your love for making candles.

Videos that show you making your products.

A page with tips for safety in the home.

A contact us form that allows potential customers to contact you with questions, concerns, or comments.

A testimonials page that contains quotes from satisfied customers; this can be used to build up your credibility in the eyes of would-be buyers.

Product pages that showcase the different types of products that you offer.

Individual inventory pages that feature pictures of each type and scent of candle, a description and a button to add the candle to the shopping cart.

However you choose to market your candle making business, a website can be one of the most important and effective means of doing so and can catapult your efforts to success over the top!

By taking the right steps at the beginning, you can start your cleaning business with very low up-front costs, and, unlike many small businesses, you can actually clear a profit in your first year of operation!

What are the advantages of starting a cleaning business as opposed to owning and operating another type of business?

* A successful cleaning business can easily be started by one person who does everything from billing to marketing to the actual cleaning. You can start the business part-time and keep a full-time job until the business grows and can support your lifestyle.

* You'll provide the cleaning services at the client's building, so more than likely clients will never go to your "place of business". Therefore, you can easily run a commercial cleaning business out of your home. A spare room or garage can hold your supplies and equipment, and you can use a spare bedroom or small corner of any room to do your paperwork. Working out of your home saves the cost of leasing or owning a building and you can write off part of your home mortgage and utilities as business expenses.

* You can start a cleaning business with only a small investment in supplies and equipment. As your business grows and you offer more services such as carpet cleaning or stripping floors, you can buy or lease equipment.

* When just starting out you will probably do most, if not all, of the work by yourself. If you need employees you can work with a temporary employment agency and avoid the challenging tasks of payroll and paying employment taxes, social security, unemployment, and worker's compensation.

* A cleaning business can start out as a sole proprietorship, which is the easiest and cheapest way to set up a business entity. As the business grows you can consider changing the structure to a corporation or limited liability corporation, which may require an attorney and an investment of several hundred dollars.

What steps are needed to not only start a cleaning business, but to make sure that it is a successful cleaning business?

* Begin by writing a business plan. This does not have to be a long document, but a three-to five page document that you prepare to help you focus and decide the basic parameters of your cleaning business. Include the following in your business plan: business name, location, geographic area you will serve, competition, business structure, marketing plan, accounting procedures and a cash flow spreadsheet. Remember, a business plan is to help get you focused - it is not a hard and fast document that outlines the day-to-day operations of how you will run your cleaning business.

* After deciding on a business name and business structure, it is important to decide on a particular "niche" for your cleaning business. Do you want to clean small office buildings, large office buildings, medical clinics, banks, new construction or government buildings? It is much easier to start with one particular niche and focus your marketing efforts on a select group, rather than spreading yourself too thin.

* When just starting out your cleaning business you can easily operate on a shoestring marketing budget. Avoid the expensive and often ineffective newspaper and radio ads. Market your cleaning services through networking (especially through your local chamber), cold calling (in-person and by telephone), talking to property managers, and watching for new buildings going up in your area.

* Once you decide to start a cleaning business, develop a relationship with a janitorial supplies distributor. Although it may seem like buying supplies through a distributor is more expensive than buying through a "big box retail store", there are many advantages in working with a distributor.

A distributor can teach you how to use supplies and equipment properly, which will save your cleaning business time and money. A distributor has knowledge of new products and can let you know when a cheaper product works just as well as a more expensive item. Through a distributor you will be able to buy concentrated and more effective cleaning chemicals. Knowing what chemicals to use and how to use them can directly affect your bottom line. This is advice you cannot get from a big box store! And besides giving advice and training, a janitorial supplies distributor may have leads and referrals that can lead to profitable cleaning accounts.

* Another important person to find right at the start of your cleaning business is an accountant. A good accountant does much more than figure out your taxes at the end of the year. He or she will provide financial advice and guidance throughout the year and help you make important financial decisions such as when to buy or lease a piece of equipment or whether you should rent office space. This will help to save you money.

Hard work, dedication and attention to detail will keep your cleaning business going. Taking the time to make plans for your cleaning business will help to ensure that your cleaning business is successful!

HOW TO START A HOME-BASED RESUME WRITING BUSINESS

HOW TO START A HOME-BASED RESUME WRITING BUSINESS

Do you find yourself at work daydreaming of running a home-based business, only to become paralyzed by the fear of start-up costs and how to get started? If you are a good listener who enjoys helping people and have skills in the areas of researching, writing, and formatting documents on the computer, you might want to consider becoming a resume writer. Make no mistake the industry is huge and competitive, and you will not get rich quickly. You can depend on a steady income if you work hard, but it won't be immediate. The national salary average for a home-based resume writer ranges from $25,000 to $100,000 depending on how much marketing you do, how many clients you can manage weekly, how much you charge, and if you are working for yourself, in partnership with someone, or employing subcontractors to write your clients' resumes and cover letters.

GETTING STARTED

If you are currently working and are not in a financial position to take a risk, keep your job and start slowly by working only in the evenings and on weekend. As a home-based entrepreneur, you must feel comfortable bringing clients into your home. If you have small children and your home does not have a separate entrance, make sure someone is able to watch your children to avoid interruption. Make sure your family is supportive and is willing to keep the house clean and quiet when you know you are expecting a client. If you are not comfortable with meeting clients in person, you can decide to work strictly over the Internet. Some resume writes meet at local libraries and coffee shops to conduct their client in-take interviews.

START-UP COSTS

To succeed as a resume writer does require a lot of determination and hard work, but it does not have to cost an unreasonable amount of money to get started. Start up costs will vary depending on your investment. To begin, you will want to purchase an up-to-date computer with high-speed Internet access and a good word processor such as MS Word or WordPerfect. Ideally, you should have a wireless laptop so you can sit somewhere comfortably when you work or for when you want to take your computer on the road for whatever reason. You will also need a laser printer, a desktop or internal fax (such as e-fax.com), and a second telephone line if you live with people who use the phone a lot. Supplies include toner and resume paper (http://www.southworth.com) if you are providing resume prints to clients (usually local resume services; Internet-based clients are satisfied with the electronic version of their resume). Mailing clients hard prints of their resumes is an added cost to them and you since you must charge tax on a tangible item. Good resume paper averages three to ten cents per sheet and postage costs depend on how many prints you are sending (can be a lot if the resume is two pages).

MARKETING YOUR BUSINESS

There are two sure-fire ways to generate new business. If you are looking to start small, local advertising in the Yellow Pages is the best way to get started. At first you can begin with an in-column print ad (simply having a commercial telephone number gives you a free line listing in the Yellow Pages under your business category, but will not generate as much business and an ad would) and eventually graduate to display ads with color or large black print ads. Often, the charge goes directly on your monthly phone bill.
The other way is to launch a website. Unless you can do your own website, you will need to hire a web designer. Cost range from $200 a page and up for a basic website and will increase significantly depending on what you want done. You will need to tell your web designer what you want the website to say and how you want it to look and work for you, so be sure to do your homework by looking at other websites to get a feel for content and design.

After you have a website developed, potential clients must be able to find you on the Internet. That involves Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques. This is the difference between coming up in Google, Yahoo, and MSN one page 1 or 150. You can do Internet research on SEO strategies and teach yourself the necessary skills (recommended for the small business owner) or you can hire someone to do it for you. SEO costs range, and can be as much as $3,000 to get started and as much as $1,000 a month to maintain and increase your page ranking. There is also SEO software on the market that you can purchase to help you manage the process.

DEVELOPING YOUR SKILLS

Client relationships and the art of resume writing and cover letter writing are probably the hardest part of all. There are so many occupations out there that you must have a general understanding of most of them to engage in a good conversation with a job seeker. They must be made to feel confident that you know what you are talking about and will be able to do their resume and cover letter. And, it is important that you know what you are doing in order to develop a good resume. Today's job seeker is very savvy and is capable of writing a fairly decent resume using a vast array of free information available to them in resume sample books and on the Internet. They hire professional resume writers because they need someone to provide consultative advice and to write a resume and cover letter in way that they cannot. You can visit many free Internet sites such as the Occupational Outlook Handbook or rent resume sample books from the library to study various job types, client situations, and wording. The best way to learn is working directly with clients. They will tell you what you need to know simply by answering your questions and telling you what they do, which should include their accomplishments.

A slow, but effective and affordable way to get started is to volunteer your free resume writing services. Who wouldn't take advantage of that, considering today's professional resume writer charges anywhere from $89 for a very basic resume to $1,500 for a comprehensive executive resume. You can advertising your free services at your local community college, library, and homeless shelter, as well as help friends, family, and neighbors.

Once you have gained a working knowledge of various occupational areas and have mastered the art of interviewing clients, you will need to have very good word processing and document formatting skills so you can create an attractive resume. You will also need to have a knowledge of the resume writing process so you can strategically lay the resume out on paper in the proper manner. For example, you should know that the Education section for a new college graduate is the first section before work experience unless their work experience is extensive. In short, you need to know what will sell your client (job seeker) to a hiring company. This is why the resume is called a marketing tool.

When you are done creating the resume, the client will let you know if they are happy with the results and will work with you on revisions. When it is finalized, it is recommended to only send an email version of the resume to clients because they need to learn how to modify their resumes if they want to ensure a successful job search campaign (this is something you must teach them). This is the more affordable and efficient solution for both you and your clients because the hard prints quickly become obsolete. You should never send a cover letter in hardcopy because the cover letter must be personally addressed to the hiring manager/company. This should only be provided in electronic form i.e. email or disk/CD. Another very important form of the resume the client will need is a plain text version (ASCII). You will need to learn how to convert and format the resume to plain text so the client can upload their resume to major job boards such as monster.com, hotjobs.com, and careerbuilder.com.

DEFINING YOUR BUSINESS

A resume writer falls into two categories a resume generalist or niche market. A resume generalist writes for all occupational disciplines and a niche market resume writer specializes in one such occupation such as teachers or career level such college students. If you decide to target a niche market, you will be expected to have an expertise in this area. So be sure to master everything you need to know in that occupational area. You might not get as much business as a generalist would in the beginning, but as the years progress you will grow your niche business if you work hard and smart.

ESTABLISHING CREDIBILITY

Job seekers need to know they can trust you before paying you. One way is to establish yourself with resume writing organizations. They include the National Resume Writers' Association (nrwaweb.com), the Professional Association of Resume Writers (parw.com), Career Masters Institute (cminstitute.com), and the Professional Resume Writers and Research Association (prwra.com). Annual memberships range from $150 to $175. You will have the opportunity to network with other resume writers on an e-list, have access to monthly newsletters, attend annual conventions (conventions are a few hundred dollars to attend), and get certified by taking (tough) certifying tests to get certified as a professional resume writer. Each organization has their own guidelines. Modest test taking fees average a couple of hundred dollars and the average first-time pass rate is 50% with the opportunity to re-test without having to pay additional fees. After that, the wait time is generally six month or a year to test again for a fee.

5 Best Ways to Start a New Business on a Shoestring Budget

Just over 32 percent of new business owners needed less than $5,000 to start or acquire their business. Amazingly enough, 25 percent of business owners needed no dollar amount to start up. The following is just a small list of some ways to start your new business with little or no money.

1. Work from home - Starting a home business is easier and much less expensive than renting commercial space. Most small business does not require a special location. Benefits to home businesses include flexibility in hours, less travel expense, no rent, great in-home tax advantages, and being able to comfortably work in your PJ's. If you can start your new business from home, do it; there will be enough expenses without the added cost of commercial rental space.

2. Online business - The newest explosion in the business world is on the internet. Online sales will excel beyond person-to-person sales of nearly all types by 2020. There is very little you can't purchase on the World Wide Web. Websites can be created for free with the most basic computer skills and "voila" you're in business. Research what type of business you want and search the internet for related websites to get ideas.

3. Start small - No business starts "BIG;" they all start small and grow successful over time. A prosperous business has a sound foundation and has grown and expanded from one seed to its full potential. The founder of Dell Computers was a college dropout. Starting out of his garage, he managed to excel above all of the world's top computer manufacturers. One in three computers sold today is a Dell.

4. Drop shipment - Retail sales generally require a storefront, but with a drop shipment retail business there is no inventory to pre-purchase, stock and store, and no shipping expense. Many wholesalers are more than willing to drop ship directly to the retailers' end user. Your job is to simply locate the buyer, confirm availability of the item, accept payment, and place the order with the wholesaler. The wholesaler will ship the order directly to your customer and send the billing to you. Now you just need to decide what items you want to sell!

5. Offer a lease option - It's not always easy to sell an established business, and owners can become frustrated with the effort. Many don't immediately see other options to get out and often times they just liquidate and close down their business out of pure impatience. Sellers may become receptive to the idea of a lease option sale when they reach this crushing state. Many may not have previously considered or even be aware of this option to them. Basically, you walk in with little or no down payment, take over and continue operations as usual, and for a pre-determined length of time, the seller receives a monthly "lease fee" from your new business. Once the set time frame has elapsed, you automatically own the business. There are potential risks taken by both partners, but with an air-tight lease contract, and a good understanding of each others position, these type of business purchases can benefit all involved and get a new owner into his desired business with less stress and without as great a financial burden.

69 percent of new businesses were started or acquired without any need to borrow money. Being one those who didn't borrow money could mean the difference between a successful business and just another failed statistic.

Some tutors travel to their students' home for lessons. This is extremely convenient for the student (and parents). Tutors who start a tutoring business and travel to their students' homes usually charge extra for this convenience. Other common locations for tutors, depending on the subject, include schools, tutoring centers, sports facilities, and more.

Academic tutoring is always in demand. Because of the expectations placed on elementary, middle, and high school students, many times academic tutoring is the best alternative for extra help. Previous academics considered college level are now even a part of high school curriculums.

Classroom overcrowding also leads to a lack of individual personalized attention. Inadequately prepared, many students do not do well on college admissions testing, sending parents to tutors for assistance.

Tutors who start a tutoring business typically offer everything from private one-on-one tutoring to small or even large classes. Most students do better with private lessons, as there are no distractions or group pressures. Tutors should adjust their lessons to suit the individual needs of each student.

While parents usually pay the bill for tutoring, sometimes the "No Child Left Behind" federal law funds academic tutoring for public school students falling behind or for those with learning disabilities. Only tutors with college degrees qualify for this federally subsidized payment program.

Academics are a priority to most parents, but tutoring is not all about academics. Tutors may start a tutoring business teaching any type of hobby, skill, sport, or talent. Popular subjects include dance, drama, sewing, modeling, piano, painting, computer skills, sports coaching, singing, cooking, karate, guitar, drawing, and swimming. A tutor skilled in any subject that someone wants to learn can start a tutoring business.

Academic tutors do not need much equipment to start a tutoring business other than books and basic supplies. Sports or hobby tutors may need special equipment or may need to rent a specific location for lessons. Sometimes students have the perfect equipment right at home. For example, a sewing tutor may visit a student's home for lessons on the student's own sewing machine.

All About Starting a Petition

When you feel very deeply about a cause, a petition is one way in which you can show those in authority that you are not the only one that feels this way. Through the signatures on the petition, you can show that others do support you.

Starting a petition is not a difficult process, but it is one for which you do need to have a valid reason. You not only have to identify the issue of the petition, but you also need to know the best person to whom you can address the petition.

Depending on the issue you want to address, some of the recipients of your position could be:

• Government departments
• Government representatives
• Politicians - state, provincial, federal
• Political parties
• Educational institutions
• Media
• Sports organizations
• Local authorities, such as city or town councils
• Entertainment producers

Even though traditional petitions are the most widely accepted because they actually have the handwritten signature of those who support the cause, online petitions are also readily accepted.

If you intend to start an online petition, make sure you meet the requirements of the recipient for this form of petition. State governments in the US for example, have different requirements, which means you should make sure you do your homework to have all the bases covered,

Research is also essential before you start a petition. You must have your position statement outlined very clearly and include research that supports your claim. This opening statement should include all the relevant information needed by both those you ask to sign and for those to whom you are submitting the petition. A basic outline for starting a petition is:

• Describe the current situation
• Suggest changes
• Explain why these changes are needed and how the changes will make improvements
• Make sure your statements in the petition all relate to the situation
• Reread what you have written to ensure there are no spelling or grammatical errors

In some cases you do need to have a certain number of signatures in order for the petition to be deemed valid. You should check this before you start. You should also make a decision as to how you are going to collect the signatures you need.

You can use both a traditional petition and an online one for the same cause, in which case you will collect a larger number of signatures. It takes more time to use a traditional petition, especially if it involves a very large area. For a local petition, you may easily be able to go door to door and get the support you need.

You may need permission to circulate a petition, whether it is in the traditional petition format or online. This is true if you want to petition authorities about an injustice you feel strongly about. For example, if you feel an individual or group of people have been unfairly treated, then you do need the permission of those involved before you start the petition on their behalf.

Whatever type of petition you start, you must make sure that as many people know about it as possible. If you feel strongly about changes to a situation, you must have as many names as possible so that those in authority realize that you are not the only one in this situation.

Starting a Gutter Cleaning Business

For many homeowners, autumn means gutter cleaning time. For people who live close to any tall trees, this is one critical maintenance item that must be undertaken before winter. By not cleaning the gutters in late fall, damage, such as water seeping in behind the facia board, can result from ice damning in the winter months. Costly repairs can be avoided by having the gutters cleaned now.

Even though a gutter cleaning service requires little startup capital, you can earn a significant amount of money in a matter of a few months. In terms of profit, it's very common for two people to earn $500-$1000 per day.

Starting your own gutter cleaning business is simple. All you need is a long ladder, a 5 gal pail, a few hand scoops, some garbage bags, and you're ready to earn some serious money in the fall.

There is more than one way to take care of a dirty gutter. There are many factors taken into account, such as the type of home, the amount of crud in the gutter, and any unforeseen landscape challenges.

One of the fastest ways to get the job done is by using a power leaf blower. In some cases (as long as the debris is dry), you will be able to walk along the edge of the roof while blowing leaves out of the gutter. A standard house can be completed in under a half an hour, including tidying up the debris on the ground. If you choose to use a gas powered leaf blower to clean gutters, you will be making at least $100 per hour while on the job. Of course, most gutters are not dry and other techniques must be used instead.

Ideally, it's nice to work on a roof with a gentle rise so that you can scoop wet debris into your pail as you walk along the edge. More often than not, the pitch will be just a little too much to walk and you will have to keep setting up your ladder every ten feet or so around the house. For each ladder placement you will need to climb up and get as much debris as you can. This is the most tedious way of doing it since you must keep handling the ladder - climbing up and down each time.

Whenever you are working at heights, always make sure that you use fall arrest gear.

Gutter cleaning season may be short-lived, depending on where you are located. In November, it's not unusual for the sun to set at 4:30 p.m. in many areas of Canada and the northern US. For this reason, you need to make every hour count; even if that means operating seven days a week. Fortunately, it won't last long. In December, business will come to a halt. Using every bit of daylight is important to earning a nice profit in the short time available.

Marketing your gutter cleaning service will be easy. At least one month before the busy fall season starts, you need to place a newspaper ad and deliver a few thousand flyers. You can rely on the fact that many homeowners will, undoubtedly, keep your ad and call you when they need you. If you don't have enough business by November, don't panic; you can walk through the neighborhood marketing your services in person. Offer people an instant quote and you'll be astonished at how many will take advantage of your services instantly. Some gutter cleaners even organize a crew of two or three together and go door-to-door, doing the jobs right away - as soon as the service is sold. Keep in mind that many homeowners love having instant service and will take you up on your offer to do their gutters that same day. Because people tend to hold off until the very last minute and procrastinate, this works well.

Canvassing door-to-door is one powerful method, but you need to contact City Hall before you start - just to make sure that you are not breaking the law. A number of cities require a permit, and many won't tolerate any kind of door-to-door canvassing at all.

If you're operating every day and your roster is organized, you should be able to generate a few thousand dollars a week in prime season. The problem is that gutter cleaning season is very short. Due to the seasonal nature of gutter cleaning, many companies offering this unique service can't do the business on a full-time basis unless they are based in a warmer climate. On the other hand, it's not out of the question to have an influx of phone calls from desperate homeowners in early spring with overflowing gutter troubles.
